California D.A. Faces Backlash for 9/11 Retweets About NY’s Mamdani

San Luis Obispo County District Attorney Dan Dow is facing criticism after retweeting posts featuring 9/11 attack images alongside comments condemning the election of Zohran Mamdani as New York City’s first Muslim mayor. Dow shared these posts on Wednesday, sparking controversy and calls for an apology from the Muslim advocacy organization CAIR-LA.

The posts, originally from right-wing accounts, depicted the 9/11 attacks and criticized Mamdani, a democratic socialist. One of the retweets came from the account @EndWokeness, which claims to fight against “wokeness.” Another was from Amy Mekelburg, founder of RAIR Foundation, labeled a hate group by the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).

Dow, in response to the backlash, stated he has no issues with the Muslim community in San Luis Obispo County, emphasizing his strong ties with them. He explained, “I shared the posts because, in my opinion, Mamdani is going to destroy New York being a self-proclaimed socialist” as reported by Yahoo News.

CAIR-LA is demanding an apology and an investigation into Dow’s conduct, accusing him of promoting anti-Muslim sentiment. Dr. Rushdi Cader, a Muslim ally of Dow, expressed concern over the potential harm these posts could cause to the Muslim community, especially women wearing hijabs.
