LOS ANGELES (CNS) – Burglary suspects led police on a high speed chase through South Los Angeles Wednesday morning that saw the alleged culprits jump out of a U-Haul truck and into a black Lexus that later crashed into a motorist in the pre-dawn hours.
The chase started about 4:00 a.m. in the 1100 block of East 32nd Street, where four to five male suspects wearing ski masks and dark clothing were spotted taking items from a warehouse and putting them into the U-Haul truck, said an officer with the Los Angeles Police Department.
The truck was driven at high speeds on roads and freeways.
The suspects abandoned the truck in the area of Manchester and La Cienega boulevards, near the iconic Randy’s Donuts and several of them jumped into a black Lexus sedan that pulled up to the location and sped away, with police in pursuit.
The car, which was driven at speeds of 100 miles an hour, crashed around 6 a.m. into another vehicle at 48th Street and Arlington Avenue. Prior to that the suspects had collided with a police cruiser and quickly sped off.
The innocent driver did not appear to be seriously injured, according to a report from the scene.
Two suspects were taken into custody, according to a broadcast report that indicated one of them had been a passenger in the Lexus.
At least one suspect, possibly the driver who ran from the vehicle, was still being sought after fleeing on foot into a neighborhood in Hyde Park near the crash location, where police set up a perimeter.
