Bottled Water Recall Reclassified Over ‘Adverse Health Consequences’

More than 650,000 units of plastic water bottles were recalled amid reports that they were “under insanitary conditions,” the U.S. Food & Drug Administration announced in an update on Thursday (February 26).

Valley Springs Artesian Gold, LLC, of Portage, Wisconsin, and the U.S. Food & Drug Administration initially recalled the bottled water on February 6 before it was reclassified to a Class II on February 26 as it may result in “temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences.” The recalled Valley Springs Artesian Gold bottles include the labels listed below:

  • 1-gallon Valley Springs 100% Natural Bottled Water with UPC 0 31193-00701
  • 2.5-gallon Valley Springs 100% Natural Bottled Water with UPC 0 31193-01501
  • 1-gallon Valley Springs 100% Natural Bottled Water “Infant Water. Not sterile.” with UPC 0 31193-01401 7

  • 1-gallon Valley Springs Steamed Distilled Water with UPC 0 31193-0060

The recalled water was distributed in Illinois and Wisconsin. Anyone who has purchased these items is advised not to consume them as they were bottled under an “insanitary condition,” making them unsafe to drink, however, the FDA didn’t elaborate on what exactly caused the recall.

All consumers are strongly advised to dispose of the bottles or return them to their place of purchase for a full refund.
