Border Patrol Agents Kill ICU Nurse in Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS — Tensions are rising in Minneapolis after a Border Patrol agent fatally shot a U.S. citizen. This is the second deadly encounter involving federal agents in the city this month.

The Department of Homeland Security says 37-year-old Alex Pretti, an ICU nurse at a VA hospital, approached agents with a handgun and “violently resisted” when officers tried to disarm him, prompting an agent to fire.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz accused federal officials of “spinning stories” before any investigation is complete. He and local leaders say the state will conduct its own review and are again calling for federal immigration agents to leave the city.

Minneapolis police say Pretti was a licensed gun owner and that open carry is legal under Minnesota law. Video shows agents pepper-spraying and pinning Pretti to the ground before shooting him multiple times.

DHS Secretary Kristi Noem labeled the incident “domestic terrorism,” a claim state leaders say is premature and unsupported as investigations continue.
