An Air India Express flight from Mumbai to Varanasi was forced to make an emergency landing on Wednesday (November 12) after receiving a bomb threat. The plane, carrying 176 passengers and crew, landed safely at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi. All individuals on board were evacuated without any injuries, according to The Daily Mail.
Upon landing, the aircraft was moved to an isolation bay for a comprehensive security inspection. Bomb disposal experts conducted thorough checks, but no suspicious items were found. The threat was later determined to be a hoax, as reported by The Independent.
Air India Express confirmed that all necessary security protocols were followed, and the aircraft will be cleared for operations once all mandated checks are completed. The airline worked closely with government security agencies during the incident.
The bomb threat extended to other major Indian airports, including those in Delhi and Mumbai, prompting precautionary security measures. Authorities are investigating whether these threats are connected.
This incident follows recent disruptions at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport due to technical issues in the Air Traffic Control system, affecting over 400 flights.
