The body of Tanner Prentiss, a 22-year-old student from the University of California, Santa Barbara, was found in Big Bear Lake on Monday.. Prentiss disappeared over the weekend during a trip with friends. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department announced that their dive team recovered his body around 10:30 a.m. near Pine Knot Marina on the 40,000 block of Village Drive.
Prentiss, a junior majoring in sociology, was last seen leaving a rental cabin for a walk shortly after midnight on Saturday. He was wearing a black hoodie and jeans and was possibly heading toward Big Bear Boulevard, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. Prentiss was a member of the Santa Barbara Snow Club, which had posted a missing person alert for him on Instagram.
The sheriff’s department stated that no foul play is suspected, and the Coroner’s Office is now handling the investigation. In a statement, the department expressed condolences, saying, “Our thoughts and prayers go out to Tanner’s family, friends, and all those who are affected by his loss.” The family has requested privacy during this difficult time.
