In a speech on Saturday (June 27) in Maryland, Former President Joe Biden criticized President Donald Trump for his renovation projects in Washington, D.C. Biden labeled Trump a “loser” and accused him of focusing on “vanity projects” rather than substantial governance.
Biden’s remarks, delivered at a gala hosted by the Maryland Democratic Party, targeted several of Trump’s initiatives, including the construction of a new ballroom at the White House, the addition of his name to the Kennedy Center, and the renovation of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. According to Biden, these projects reflect “narcissism and incompetence” and are emblematic of what he described as “corruption on a scale never seen before in American history” as reported by The Hill.
The Reflecting Pool renovation, in particular, has faced challenges, including algae blooms and allegations of mismanagement. Biden claimed that the project symbolizes deeper issues within Trump’s administration. USA Today noted that the pool’s renovation costs exceeded initial estimates, raising questions about the administration’s financial oversight.
Biden’s speech also coincided with the two-year anniversary of his challenging debate performance against Trump in 2024, which led to his withdrawal from the presidential race. Despite stepping back from the political forefront, Biden remains vocal in his criticism of Trump’s policies and governance style.
