Bernice King Tells Trump: ‘Now Do Epstein Files’ After MLK Docs Released

Bernice King, the daughter of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., condemned the Trump administration for unsealing thousands of documents related to her father’s death, calling for them to release the full, unredacted files surrounding sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

On Monday (July 21), Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard announced the release of over 230,000 pages tied to the activist’s 1968 assassination, promising to provide “complete transparency.”

Bernice King shot back at the Trump administration’s move, urging them to release all documents related to Epstein’s sex trafficking investigation. Earlier this month, the Justice Department released a memo stating that there was no evidence Epstein maintained a long-rumored list of high-profile clients to whom he would traffick his victims. The Republican-led House Rules Committee also blocked an amendment that would’ve allowed Congress to vote on whether the Epstein files should be made public.

“Now, do the Epstein files,” Bernice King tweeted Monday following Gabbard’s announcement.

King and her brother, Martin Luther King III, also released a joint statement, saying, “While we support transparency and historical accountability, we object to any attacks on our father’s legacy or attempts to weaponize it to spread falsehoods.”

The King Center, led by Bernice King, framed Trump’s unsealing of the MLK assassination files as a distraction.

“It is unfortunate and ill-timed, given the myriad of pressing issues and injustices affecting the United States and the global society,” the King Center said in a statement.

Fellow activist Rev. Al Sharpton echoed the King family’s sentiments, saying the administration’s move was “not about transparency or justice.”

“It’s a desperate attempt to distract people from the firestorm engulfing Trump over the Epstein files and the public unraveling of his credibility among the Maga base,” Sharpton said.
