Przemyslaw Jeziorski, a 43-year-old marketing professor at the University of California, Berkeley, was shot and killed on July 4 in Athens, Greece. The incident occurred in the Agia Paraskevi district as Jeziorski was on his way to visit his children at his ex-wife’s home. Greek police have charged five individuals in connection with the murder, including Jeziorski’s ex-wife and her current partner.
According to CNN, Jeziorski was shot multiple times at close range by a masked gunman. The current boyfriend of Jeziorski’s ex-wife has admitted to the murder and faces premeditated murder charges. Three other suspects, two Albanian nationals and a Bulgarian national, are charged as accomplices. Jeziorski’s ex-wife is facing moral accomplice charges but denies any involvement.
Jeziorski, who was known as “Przemek” or “PJ,” was a tenured professor at UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business for 13 years. He was recognized for his expertise in quantitative marketing and the economics of digital markets. The professor’s death has left his family and the academic community in shock. His brother, Łukasz Jeziorski, expressed gratitude to Greek authorities for their swift action and emphasized the family’s concern for the safety and well-being of Jeziorski’s two young children, who are now in Greek protective custody.
The Los Angeles Times reported that Jeziorski’s family is working to repatriate his remains to Poland and has started a fundraiser to cover legal expenses. UC Berkeley issued a statement mourning the loss of Jeziorski, highlighting his passion for teaching and his impact on students.
As the investigation continues, all five suspects have been given until Monday to prepare their pleas. The case has drawn international attention, with the US and Polish consulates in Athens assisting in ensuring the children’s welfare.
