Bass Directs LAPD to Address Recent Burglaries on Ventura Boulevard

LOS ANGELES (CNS) – Mayor Karen Bass Friday directed the Los Angeles Police Department to begin additional patrols along Ventura Boulevard in response to a string of recent home burglaries.

Under her direction, LAPD’s Operations-Valley Bureau is expected to provide extra patrols with officers, detectives and other specialized units. The bureau will deploy vehicles in high-visibility locations, use license plate readers in high-risk burglary areas and host community meetings led by senior lead officers.

The bureau is expected to host weekly burglary meetings with area detectives to discuss trends, and develop additional responses.

LAPD will begin providing air support for high-visibility patrol with the aim of deterring crime.

“The safety of every Angeleno is my number-one priority. The city has zero tolerance for these recent burglaries,” Bass said in a statement.

“Residents deserve to feel safe in their communities, especially in their homes, and we will continue to deploy the resources necessary to keep people safe,” Bass added.

LAPD previously announced it was investigating several home burglaries that occurred within the span of 24 hours in the San Fernando Valley.

One home on Davana Terrace, in Sherman Oaks, was hit both Friday and Saturday night, the Los Angeles Police Department told ABC7. Police said the burglar broke a window to get inside, but it was unclear what was taken.

Two burglars also stole about $100,000 worth of jewelry from a home on Macapa Drive in Hollywood Hills on Saturday around 9:30 p.m., according to the station. Residents came home and caught the burglars halfway through the robbery, and one suffered minor injuries trying to confront the burglar, ABC7 reported.

A third home on Sylmar Avenue in Sherman Oaks reportedly was targeted around 1 a.m. Saturday, but it was unclear if anything was taken in that case.

It was not immediately clear if the burglaries are connected, but police are investigating the crimes.
