At Least 21 Palestinians Killed In Israeli Strikes

At least 21 Palestinians, many of which were women and children, including two infants, were killed during Israeli strikes on Gaza Wednesday (February 4), hospital officials confirmed via the Associated Press.

The attack took place amid an already fragile ceasefire deal with Israel claiming it was responding to a militant attack on its soldiers that left one person seriously injured. Israel has reportedly carried out multiple deadly strikes since its truce with Hamas went into effect on October 10, the latest of which included five children, seven women and an on-duty paramedic being killed, according to hospital officials.

“The genocidal war against our people in the Gaza Strip continues,” said Dr. Mohamed Abu Selmiya, director of Gaza City’s Shifa Hospital, in a Facebook post via the Associated Press. “Where is the ceasefire? Where are the mediators?”

Israel has denied public accusations of committing genocide in Gaza since launching its war in response to Hamas-led militants killing 1,200 people, most of which were civilians, and abducting 251 on October 7, 2023. The ceasefire deal attempted to stop the more than 2-year-old war between Israel and Hamas, though flareups of violence have continued, with Israel claiming it was retaliating to violations of militant attacks committed by Hamas.

A total of 556 Palestinians have been killed and 1,500 wounded since the truce went into effect, according to Gaza health officials, while Israel’s military claims four of its soldiers have been killed during that same span.
