A macabre teddy bear, with a covering resembling human skin, was found outside a Victorville convenience store on Sunday. The bear, which led to a law enforcement investigation, has actually been determined to be an art piece made of latex by South Carolina artist Robert Kelly.
San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of possible human remains at the AMPM store on Bear Valley Road. The coroner’s office collected the object, and the investigation is ongoing. Kelly, who specializes in horror-themed artwork through his business, Dark Seed Creations, confirmed that the bear was his work. He shipped it to a customer in Victorville last week.
The bear’s realistic appearance sparked concern, but it is made entirely of latex. Kelly expressed surprise at the attention, noting that his phone “started blowing up” after the incident. He stated, “I don’t know if the guy broke any laws or if it was just a prank, but it looks like he definitely got some people riled up” according to ABC7.
Despite the ongoing investigation, the bear is available for purchase online for $165. Kelly emphasized that he had no knowledge of the buyer’s intentions. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact them.
