Arrest Made In Tuskegee University Homecoming Shooting

An arrest was made in connection to a fatal shooting that took place on the Tuskegee University campus in Alabama during the school’s homecoming festivities early Sunday (November 10) morning.

Jaquez Myrick, 25, of Montgomery, was charged with possession of a machine gun, a release from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency obtained by ABC News confirmed, Gunshots were fired while festivities were concluding at around 1:40 a.m. local time and Myrick was reported to have been located as he attempted to leave the scene. The victim killed in the shooting was identified as “a non-university individual” and at least 16 others were injured.

“The parents of this individual have been notified,” a Tuskegee University statement released on Sunday read. “Several others including Tuskegee University students were injured and are receiving treatment at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika and Baptist South Hospital in Montgomery.”

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency didn’t indicate whether additional suspects were wanted in relation to the incident, but did ask the public to continue sending all relevant information to the FBI. Police initially suspected multiple shooters were responsible for the incident, according to radio transmissions sent from officers at the scene.

“There’s going to be two shooters at this time, maybe more,” one officer said in a radio call, according to transmissions obtained by ABC News through Broadcastify.

Tuskegee University is a historically Black land-grant university that has been the home of numerous African American historical figures including its founder Booker T. Washington, scientist George Washington Carver and the Tuskegee Airmen, a group of primarily African American military pilots who fought in World War II.
