Anonymous Tip Leads Search for Guthrie’s Remains in Mexico

A search is underway in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico, for the remains of Nancy Guthrie, the mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie, following an anonymous tip. Volunteers from the Buscando Corazones collective have been scouring the area near the Mariposa Port of Entry, close to the Arizona border, but have yet to find any evidence of a grave or Guthrie’s remains.

The tip, received in early May, claimed that Guthrie’s remains were buried in a stream in the Mariposa area. According to KARE 11, the caller described specific clothing and characteristics that would help identify Guthrie. Despite multiple searches on May 16 and June 10, no evidence has been found. A third search is planned for June 16.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Office acknowledged the tip on “X,” stating they are aware of the reports but have not been contacted by Mexican authorities. The investigation into Guthrie’s disappearance remains active, with the sheriff’s office following up on any credible information.

12News reports that the Buscando Corazones collective, led by Ramona Guadalupe Ayala Ortiz, has conducted searches with the Nogales police, although no U.S. law enforcement has been involved. Ortiz remains hopeful that they will find Guthrie’s remains.

Guthrie was last seen at her Tucson, Arizona, home in late January. The ongoing search efforts reflect the dedication of volunteers and authorities to uncover the truth behind her disappearance.
