Anaheim Man Accused of Fatal Hit-Run DUI in Santa Ana

SANTA ANA (CNS) – A 55-year-old man was behind bars today on suspicion of killing a pedestrian at a bus stop in an allegedly alcohol-fueled hit-and-run collision in Santa Ana.

Juan Venicio Gallardo of Anaheim was arrested Sunday and was being held on $100,000 bail, according to jail records. Police were called just before 5 p.m. Sunday to a bus stop near 1500 S. Fairview St., where the victim was injured by a hit-and-run driver, according to police. The injured man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead Monday, police said.

Authorities were still working to identify the victim’s relatives, so his name was not immediately released. Gallardo was booked on suspicion of hit-and-run and felony driving under the influence, police said. Gallardo has a pending case of drunken driving in Santa Ana. He was accused of misdemeanor driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a blood alcohol content of 0.08% or more on March 29, 2021, according to the complaint.
