Americans Use More Curse Words Online Than Anybody Else In The World: Study

A recent study published in the journal Lingua reveals that Americans use more profanity online than any other country. Researchers analyzed 1.7 billion words from 20 English-speaking nations, finding that the United States leads with a profanity rate of 0.036%. Following closely are Great Britain at 0.025% and Australia at 0.022%. The study employed computer programs to identify variations of vulgar language across websites and blog posts.

The research also highlighted cultural differences in swearing habits among English-speaking countries. Americans frequently use variations of “ass,” while British users often prefer the term “cunt.” According to Phys.org, countries where English is the first language tend to exhibit more creativity in their vulgar vocabulary compared to those where English is a second language.

This study sheds light on the diverse ways different cultures express themselves online, particularly in terms of profanity. It underscores the unique linguistic characteristics that define each country’s approach to swearing.
