Altadena Crime Rises 250% Due to Looting After Eaton Fire

Altadena, California, is grappling with a significant increase in crime following the devastating Eaton Fire. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) reports a 250% rise in arrests, primarily related to theft, since the fire began. Residents, already dealing with the aftermath of the fire, are facing additional challenges from looters targeting evacuated homes and properties.

According to Pasadena Now, four men—Roy Sims, Ryan Sims, Naquan Dewey Reddix, and Pierre Obannon—are accused of burglarizing a home during the fire evacuations. They allegedly stole various items, including an Emmy Award, and face charges of first-degree residential burglary. If convicted, they could face up to six years in state prison.

In another case, two more suspects, Lucia Jilrara Perez and Rudy Salazar, are charged with looting two homes during the fire. They were caught attempting to enter a third residence and also face up to six years in prison if found guilty.

Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman has vowed to prosecute these crimes to the fullest extent of the law, emphasizing the severe impact on victims who have already suffered significant losses due to the fire. Authorities have intensified their presence in affected areas, deploying extra deputies, helicopter flyovers, drones, and National Guard assistance to prevent further property crimes.

The crackdown on looting is part of a larger effort to maintain order and support residents in rebuilding their lives after the fire. As the community works to recover, law enforcement remains vigilant in protecting the area from further criminal activity.
