After Donald Trump’s Win, Searches About Moving Abroad Jumped By 1,500%

Following the re-election of President Donald Trump, there has been a significant increase in the number of Americans considering moving abroad. According to data from VisaGuide.World, Google searches related to leaving the country surged by 1,514% after the election results were announced. The most popular destinations for potential relocation included Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.

The data also revealed that the search traffic for “immigration” related pages on VisaGuide.World’s site grew by 338% from Election Day through November 6, as people looked up information about moving to Norway, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Costa Rica.

The Independent reported that Germany-Visa.org also saw a 336% increase in traffic for pages related to immigration, with particular interest in the country’s Opportunity Card, which allows anyone from a country outside of the European Union to live in Germany for up to one year to find a job.

According to CNBC, for those who indicated interest in moving abroad, “culture” was cited as the top reason, followed by jobs and healthcare. Taxes and education were each cited by roughly 3% of respondents as reasons to move overseas following a loss by their preferred candidate.
