Actress Sally Kirkland Has Died In Palm Springs Hospice

PALM SPRINGS (CNS) – Oscar-nominated actress Sally Kirkland has died in hospice care in Palm Springs Tuesday following an extended health battle.

The Associated Press reported that the one-time model who became a regular on stage, film and TV, best known for sharing the screen with Paul Newman and Robert Redford in “The Sting” and her Oscar-nominated title role in the 1987 movie “Anna,” has died. She was 84.

Friends had established a GoFundMe page to help the actress pay for her continuing health battle.

“Thank you for all your love and support. Sally is grateful for your kindness and love. Sally is on hospice now and is resting comfortably. Please hold and send the light for Sally,” according to a GoFundMe page established to help cover the 84-year-old actress’ medical bills.

The page had raised about $560,000 out of the $65,000 goal as of early Monday afternoon. The page was created Nov. 18, 2024, to help cover her medical costs as she faces a “significant health crisis.”

Organizers — Friends of Sally — said that despite her successful career as a working actor, she lost a lot of money from bad advice from a former financial adviser-business manager. Organizers also said the SAG-AFTRA actors union in 2021 canceled supplemental insurance for union members over 65 that served as Medigap coverag.

TMZ reported that Kirkland began to develop dementia last year.

According to the GoFundMe page, she recently suffered from other health complications, including life-threatening infections and fracturing “four bones in her neck, right wrist and her left hip.”

Kirkland won a Golden Globe and was nominated for an Oscar in 1988 for her leading role in “Anna.”

Her other credits include appearances in “The Sting,” “Private Benjamin,” “EDtv,” “JFK,” and “The Way We Were.”
