LOS ANGELES (CNS) – An unattended child ran into a street and was struck by a vehicle in the Exposition Park area of Los Angeles, and an investigation was underway Tuesday.
Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Southwest Division responded at 11:58 p.m. Monday to West Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Halldale Avenue regarding the accident, LAPD Officer Kevin Terzes told City News Service.
Citing law enforcement sources, KTLA5 reported that the unattended child, whose age was not immediately known, ran into the street was struck by a passing car that was headed westbound on MLK Jr. Boulevard.
Video from the scene showed the red Pontiac sedan in the middle of the roadway with caution tape surrounding it. The child was rushed to a nearby hospital with a head injury, and was originally listed in critical condition.
The motorist remained at the scene and no arrests were immediately reported. The case remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the case was urged to call 877-LAPD-247.
