Couple Sues JetBlue After Ice Block From Plane Crashes Through Home

A California couple, Michael Reese and Leah Ferrarini, has filed a $1 million lawsuit against JetBlue, alleging that a block of ice from one of the airline’s planes crashed through the roof of their Inglewood home. The incident occurred on January 1, 2024, when the ice, reportedly the size of a watermelon, landed directly over their bed, narrowly avoiding physical injury.

The couple claims the ice fell from a JetBlue Airbus A321 flight traveling from Los Angeles to New York. According to the lawsuit, a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) investigation revealed that the aircraft had a history of “potable water issues,” including a misaligned valve flange that caused a leak, leading to ice formation at high altitudes. The same plane was allegedly linked to a similar ice-falling incident in Massachusetts in August 2023.

Reese and Ferrarini accuse JetBlue of negligence and trespass, stating they did not consent to the ice entering their home. They are seeking compensation for emotional distress, pain, suffering, medical expenses, and property damage. The couple also expressed fear of airplanes passing overhead and are considering moving from their “dream home.”

JetBlue has denied responsibility, asserting that its conduct adhered to industry standards and regulations. The airline has requested the court to cover their attorney’s fees related to the lawsuit.
