FDA Issues Nationwide Recall Of Nearly 70 Ice Cream Products

The United States Food and Drug Administration announced a nationwide recall for all ice cream products made by Totally Cool Inc. The recall covers 68 products across the following 13 brands:

  • Friendly’s
  • Abilyn’s Frozen Bakery
  • Hershey’s Ice Cream
  • Yelloh!
  • Jeni’s (ice cream sandwiches)
  • Cumberland Farms
  • The Frozen Farmer
  • Marco
  • ChipWich
  • AMAFruits
  • Taharka
  • Dolcezza Gelato
  • LaSalle

The FDA said the products could be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism that can cause severe and sometimes fatal infections. The Maryland-based company halted production of the products after listeria was found during routine FDA sampling.

There have been reports of illness related to the recalled ice cream products. Symptoms of an infection include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.

Consumers are urged to stop eating any of the recalled products. Anybody who bought the recalled products can return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
