An Uber driver was arrested, accused of raping and kidnapping a drunk female passenger. Authorities in Washington state said that the driver, 58-year-old Ahmed Ali, picked up a young woman at a bar and then manipulated the Uber app to make it seem like he had dropped her off at her home.
He then drove her to a secluded area near a public access point for the Nisqually River.
When the woman didn’t return home, her father and several other relatives went looking for her. They were able to track her location using an app on their cell phone.
When they arrived, they found the woman naked in the backseat of Ali’s car. Ali was seen pulling up his pants and climbing into the front seat of his vehicle. The woman’s family attacked Ali, allowing her to escape, while her father fired at least two shots.
Ali managed to drive away, though he sustained “substantial” injuries. He was pulled over a short while later and was found bleeding from his hands and head. He initially refused medical attention but later allowed paramedics to take him to the hospital for treatment.
Ali was then taken into custody and is facing charges of second-degree rape and first-degree kidnapping.
Uber told KOMO that Ali had been suspended from the platform.
“The driver’s behavior is appalling and has no place in our society or on the Uber platform. We take reports of this nature very seriously and removed the driver’s access to the platform as soon as we were made aware of the incident. We have a dedicated team standing ready to assist law enforcement with their investigation,” a company spokesperson told the outlet.
