Israel, Hezbollah Exchange More Fire: Report

Israel and Hezbollah have both reportedly exchanged fire across the border amid their ongoing war, CNN reports.

More than 120 projectiles were reportedly fired by Hezbollah from Lebanon into Israeli territory on Sunday (October 6), according to the Israel Defense Forces. An Israeli aircraft reportedly targeted the southern suburban area of Beirut, according to Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency and a CNN team stationed in Beirut claimed to have seen multiple explosions along the skyline.

Israel launched a bombing campaign on Hezbollah, an Iranian-backed militant group with a strong presence along the southern suburbs of Beirut, Lebanon’s capital city, which resulted in hundreds of thousands of residents fleeing the area. Hezbollah retaliated by firing rockets at the northern border into Israel, which resulted in thousands of Israeli residents being displaced.

The Israeli military called for more evacuations in southern Lebanon as it vowed to retaliate against Hezbollah with some of its most intense bombing after Iran conducted its largest-ever attack during a missile barrage launched last Thursday (October 3). Additionally, Israel began new military operation in northern Gaza ahead of the one-year anniversary of Hamas’ October 7 attack on an Israeli music festival.

“We know (Hamas) have a tendency to try and carry out terror attacks on these kind of symbolic dates … and that’s why we’re preparing for that, adding forces in the south and preparing for that kind of thing,” said Israel Defense Forces International spokesperson Lt. Col. Nadav Shoshani via CNN.
