Former First Lady Melania Trump defended her nude modeling past in a promotional audio sample of her upcoming memoir shared on her Instagram account on Wednesday (September 18).
“Why do I stand proudly behind my nude modeling work?” she said. “The more pressing question is, ‘why has the media chosen to scrutinize my celebration of the human form in a fashion photo shoot?’ Are we no longer able to appreciate the beauty of the human body?”
Trump’s voiceover played over images of several famous nude works of art including Michelangelo‘s ‘David,’ Paul Cézanne‘s ‘Bathers’ and John Collier‘s ‘Lady Godiva.’
“Throughout history, master artists have revered the human shape, evoking profound emotions and admiration. We should honor our bodies and embrace the timeless tradition of using art as a powerful means of self-expression,” she added.
The video is the latest snippet from Trump’s upcoming memoir, which will be released on October 1. The former first lady had previously shared clips addressing the July 13 assassination attempt on her husband, former President Donald Trump, and another discussing parenthood.
Trump, 54, a native of Slovenia, posed nude for a French adult magazine in 1995 and on her future husband’s private jet for British GQ in 2000, five years before the couple married. The photos, which didn’t show full-frontal nudity, resurfaced during former President Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign.
Photographer Antonie Verglas, who captured the photos for British GQ, told ABC News in 2016 that the future first lady insisted on not doing “full nudity” during the photoshoot.
“Melania was a very reserved person. She was definitely not someone who you would see in nightclubs or going out a lot,” he said.
“Pretty down to earth, very nice, very warm.”
