Former child actress Raquel Lee has filed a lawsuit alleging that she was sexually assaulted by a Disney employee while filming “The Poof Point” in 2001. At the time, Lee was 14 years old. The lawsuit claims that a middle-aged Disney staff member gave her alcohol and assaulted her in a Utah hotel room.
According to the lawsuit, the employee, who was involved in the movie’s production, invited Lee and her guardian to his room under the pretense of practicing lines. Once there, Lee was pressured to drink alcohol. Later, she was invited back to his room alone, where the alleged assault occurred. The lawsuit, as reported by USA TODAY, accuses Disney of maintaining an unsafe environment for children, stating that the set allowed adults to interact with minors without proper supervision.
Lee’s legal team, including attorneys Douglas Wigdor and Jane Kim, emphasized the need for accountability in the entertainment industry. They stated, “This conduct is inexcusable, and those involved — directly or indirectly — must be held accountable.” The lawsuit also criticizes Disney for failing to protect Lee and for separating her from her guardian during filming.
Disney has declined to comment on the lawsuit. Lee’s experience is part of a broader pattern of allegations against the company, as noted in the complaint. Following her role in “The Poof Point,” Lee continued to work with Disney, providing voiceover work for “The Proud Family” and its Disney+ revival, “The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder.”
The lawsuit underscores ongoing concerns about child safety in the entertainment industry. Lee’s allegations add to a growing number of similar claims from former child actors, highlighting the need for systemic change.
