Insidious Tops Box Office, Surpassing Spider-Man

The horror film ‘Insidious: Out of the Further’ has claimed the top spot at the domestic box office, grossing $10.6 million on Friday. The movie, directed by Jacob Chase, is projected to earn around $23.7 million over the weekend. This marks the fifth time the ‘Insidious’ franchise has opened with more than $20 million, according to Deadline.

Meanwhile, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ slipped to second place, earning $9.8 million on Friday. Despite the drop, the film is expected to bring in $36.5 million over the weekend, continuing its strong performance with a cumulative domestic total of $852.4 million. The movie, starring Tom Holland and Zendaya, is on track to become one of the highest-grossing films domestically.

‘Insidious: Out of the Further’ has received mixed reviews, holding a 59% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The film features Lin Shaye and introduces new characters as it explores a young mother’s supernatural abilities. The movie has also performed well internationally, with strong openings in markets like the Philippines.

The box office success of ‘Insidious: Out of the Further’ highlights the enduring appeal of horror films, particularly in the late summer period. The Hollywood Reporter notes that the film’s audience is predominantly female, with a significant portion under 25.

As the weekend progresses, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ remains a formidable contender, with projections suggesting it could surpass ‘Avengers: Endgame’ to become the second highest-grossing film in North America. The film’s global box office performance continues to be strong, despite facing new competition.
