New Poll Shows Tight Race In Swing States Ahead Of Harris, Trump Debate

A new CBS News poll shows a tight race in battleground states ahead of the first debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump Tuesday (September 10) night.

Harris reportedly leads Trump by a 50% to 49% margin in Michigan and 51% to 49% in Wisconsin, while the two candidates are tied at 50% in Pennsylvania. Trump has a 58% to 42% advantage among voters who view the economy as a major factor in their vote, as well as a 62% to 37% edge for inflation.

Harris has a 57% to 50% advantage in Michigan, 53% to 50% edge in Pennsylvania and 55% to 48% advantage in Wisconsin among registered voters asked who they believe will try to help the interests of the middle class. The CBS News poll was shared after famed polling expert Nate Silver of FiveThirtyEight projected Trump to win the 2024 presidential election in a blowout.

Silver’s model has Trump defeating Vice President Kamala Harris in the electoral college vote by a 63.8% to 36% margin. The pollster also has Trump defeating Harris in all of the crucial battleground states to win 312 electoral college votes.

Last week, Silver reported that Trump was gaining momentum on Harris with a 58.2% at winning the Electoral College in November compared to Harris’ 41.6% chance. Harris and Trump are scheduled to participate in a presidential debate moderated by ABC News Tuesday (September 10) night.
