President Donald Trump addressed the economy and crime during a Republican National Committee (RNC) fundraising dinner at his golf club in Rancho Palos Verdes on Tuesday.
The event drew both supporters and protesters outside the venue.
Trump arrived at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on Air Force One before transferring to Marine One for the short trip to the golf club. His arrival was met with cheers from supporters waving American flags and wearing MAGA hats, while protesters held signs with slogans like “Democracy over Dictator” and “Protect our vote.”
The event, aimed at raising funds for the RNC ahead of the midterm elections, saw Trump emphasize his administration’s achievements, including tax cuts and border security.
However, the event was not without controversy. The Daily News reported that just days before the event, a man was arrested at the golf club for allegedly monitoring security activities. The suspect was found with a loaded pistol and hollow-point ammunition.
Governor Gavin Newsom, a frequent critic of Trump, issued a statement urging the president to provide federal recovery funding for families affected by last year’s wildfires. Newsom wrote in an X post, “Donald Trump promised he’d ‘take care’ of Los Angeles firestorm survivors. 18 months later, he’s flying back to LA. Not to help, but to host a fundraiser at his golf club.”
Following the event, Trump traveled to Las Vegas for another engagement. The president’s visit comes as he seeks to bolster support for Republicans ahead of the November midterm elections, where control of Congress will be at stake.
