Georgia School Shooting Suspect Charged With Four Felony Counts Of Murder

Colt Gray, the 14-year-old student accused of opening fire at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, on Wednesday (September 4), has been charged with four counts of felony murder. He is expected to make his first court appearance virtually on Friday.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said that he would be tried as an adult and that additional charges are expected.

The teen is accused of killing math teacher and football coach Richard Aspinwall, math teacher Christina Irimie, and two students, Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo.

Eight students and one teacher were injured in the mass shooting. They are all expected to recover.

Investigators have not determined a motive for the shooting or how the suspected gunman managed to obtain the AR-style weapon and bring it into his school.

Officials said that the suspect was previously interviewed by law enforcement for allegedly making online threats about a school shooting. His father told officers that there were rifles in their home but that his son did “not have unfettered access to them.”

However, the officers could not substantiate the anonymous tip they received from the FBI about the then-13-year-old.

“I could not substantiate the tip I received from the FBI to take further action,” an officer wrote in his report. “At this time, due to the inconsistent nature of the information received by the FBI, the allegation that Colt or [his father] is the user behind the Discord account that made the threat cannot be substantiated.”
