A pregnant woman and her unborn twins miraculously survived a terrifying incident on Friday on Interstate 15 in Temecula.
A metal bar fell off the back of a truck, piercing the windshield of her van and striking her in the stomach. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the woman sustained only minor injuries, and her twins are unharmed.
The incident highlights the dangers of unsecured loads on the road. According to the CHP, unsecured loads cause thousands of crashes each year, resulting in hundreds of deaths and tens of thousands of injuries. The CHP urges drivers to double-check their cargo and use appropriate tie-downs to prevent such accidents. “A simple metal bar became a high-speed projectile,” the CHP stated, emphasizing the importance of securing loads.
Photos from the scene show the van’s windshield shattered where the bar entered, with glass scattered across the dashboard. The CHP’s advice is clear: securing loads can save lives, including those of expectant mothers and their unborn children.
The CHP’s warning is a stark reminder of the potential consequences of unsecured loads, which cause more than 200,000 crashes in the U.S. every few years. The incident serves as a call to action for all drivers to ensure their cargo is properly secured before hitting the road.
