VAL VERDE (CNS) – A rapidly spreading brush fire in a remote, difficult-to-access area scorched at least 205 acres of vegetation in the Val Verde area Wednesday, with no immediate reports of injuries or threats to structures.
The fire was reported at approximately 4 p.m. near Highway 126 at San Martinez Grande Canyon Road, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
Initially estimated at about 5 acres, it increased to at least 25 acres by 5 p.m., according to Cal Fire. Cal Fire officials reported 40 minutes later that the fire had grown to about 140 acres, noting it is burning in a remote area “with difficult access.”
The fast-moving flames had burned approximately 205 acres by 6 p.m., according to LACoFD officials.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation as firefighters continued efforts to halt the blaze’s forward spread.
