Floyd Mayweather Fight Canceled Due To Promoter Lawsuit

The exhibition fight between former boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. and 18-time world kickboxing champion Mike Zambidis, scheduled for Saturday (June 27) in Athens, Greece, has been canceled. The cancellation comes amid a lawsuit filed by promotion company CSI Sports Events, claiming Mayweather breached a contract by agreeing to the fight with Zambidis.

According to federal court records, CSI Sports Events paid Mayweather $4.65 million to exclusively promote fights with Manny Pacquiao and Mike Tyson. The company filed a lawsuit in the Southern District of New York, seeking an emergency injunction to stop the fight. As reported by USA TODAY, attorney Melissa Glass stated that due to the pending motion, the fight will not proceed as planned.

The lawsuit has halted ticket sales and promotional activities for the event. Keane Anis, CEO of Front Row, the fight’s promoter, stated in court filings that his company has committed approximately $7 million to the event. The cancellation has caused significant harm to Front Row and other parties involved.

The legal dispute centers on Mayweather’s alleged breach of contract, with CSI Entertainment seeking monetary damages. The decision to cancel the fight was made due to the ongoing legal proceedings and the commercial impact on the event. Depending on the court’s ruling, the fight may be rescheduled at a later date.
