Southern California Hospitals Warned For Hiding Price Data

The Trump administration has issued formal warnings to over 500 hospitals nationwide, including 24 facilities in Southern California, for failing to provide basic public pricing data.

These hospitals face federal penalties of up to $2 million annually if they do not create and submit a plan to post transparent pricing.

The administration argues that hiding costs keeps medical expenses high for families, prompting strict enforcement backed by multi-million dollar penalties. The Associated Press obtained a list of non-compliant hospitals, which includes Aurora Las Encinas Hospital in Pasadena and Barlow Respiratory Hospital in Los Angeles, among others. You can see the full list HERE.

According to Fox LA, the warnings aim to resolve a market problem where patients, insurers, and employers often enter procedures without knowing the final costs.

The American Hospital Association stated that most hospitals comply with transparency rules, but acknowledged the system could improve.

President Donald Trump plans to tighten enforcement of the price transparency standards established by a 2019 executive order. More hospitals may receive warnings if their pricing data remains hidden or incomplete. The House Committee on Energy and Commerce has scheduled a hearing to address price transparency, with industry leaders pushing for stricter compliance.
