LOS ANGELES (CNS) – Motorists should expect more traffic disruptions on the northbound San Diego (405) Freeway through the Sepulveda Pass starting Friday evening, including two full northbound closures at the start and end of the weekend, according to Caltrans.
Northbound traffic on the 405 will be reduced to two lanes as crews work on pavement rehabilitation, but southbound traffic will not be affected, the agency announced. The restrictions will begin at 10 p.m. Friday and continue until 6 a.m. Monday.
The two overnight full closures of northbound 405 lanes from just south of Ventura Boulevard to the Ventura (101) Freeway will occur at the beginning and end of extended weekend work.
The first full closure will be from 2 to 5 a.m. Saturday, and the second will be from 12:01 to 5 a.m. Monday. Detours will be in place.
“This is necessary to safely restripe the lane markings in the area to conduct pavement work,” according to Caltrans. The following lane reductions, ramp and connector closures are scheduled:
— northbound 405 will be reduced to two lanes between just south of Ventura Boulevard to the 101 Freeway;
— the southbound 101 Freeway connector to the northbound 405 will be closed; and
— the Greenleaf Street on-ramp to the northbound 405 will be closed, as well as the off-ramp from northbound 405 to Getty Center Drive.
Beginning Monday, overnight lane reductions and ramp closures are scheduled so crews can install K-rail and rehab pavement.
“The work will start after 9 p.m. Monday, June 8 and will end by 6 a.m. each morning to Friday, June 12,” according to Caltrans. “The speed limit will be reduced to 55 mph in certain sections along southbound 405 due to ongoing paving work.
Intermittent closures will take place between the hours of 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. Monday through next Friday.
— Up to one lane of northbound 405 will be closed from Sepulveda Boulevard to Victory Boulevard;
— the northbound 405 off-ramp to Getty Center Drive will be closed;
— up to two lanes of northbound 405 will be closed between Skirball Center Drive/Mulholland Drive and Sepulveda Boulevard;
— the Sepulveda Boulevard on-ramp to northbound 405 will be closed;
— the southbound 405 off-ramp to Sunset Boulevard will be closed;
— the Sunset Boulevard on-ramp to southbound 405 will be closed, as will the Getty Center Drive on-ramp to southbound 405;
— up to four lanes of southbound 405 between Skirball Center Drive/Mulholland Drive and Wilshire Boulevard will be closed; and
— up to three lanes of southbound 405 will closed between the 101 freeway and Skirball Center Drive/Mulholland Drive.
“This work is part of the I-405 Pavement Rehabilitation Project between the Los Angeles communities of Van Nuys and Westwood along the Sepulveda Pass, according to Caltrans. “This project will apply $143.7 million toward improving the safety and mobility … as well as extend the pavement life.”
