Fetty Wap Supports Florida Principal Over Yearbook Quote

Rapper Fetty Wap has shown his support for Katie O’Connell, a Florida principal placed on leave after a lyric from his song “Trap Queen” appeared in the school’s yearbook. The St. Johns County School District put O’Connell, the principal of Trout Creek Academy, on administrative leave after the yearbook included the line, “Everybody hatin’, we just call them fans though,” attributed to her. O’Connell claims she did not approve or include the quote in the yearbook.

O’Connell, who goes by “Miss O,” was surprised to learn about the quote through social media and insists it was not present in the proofs she reviewed. According to People, she was placed on paid leave on May 20, with the district indicating a move towards non-reappointment for the 2026-2027 school year.

The incident has sparked controversy, with some parents suggesting the quote targeted families who had previously raised concerns about the school. Others, however, have defended O’Connell, arguing that the district’s response was excessive and could harm the school community. St. Johns Citizen reported that investigative records do not conclusively establish who inserted the quote into the final version of the yearbook.

In response to the situation, Fetty Wap’s publicist confirmed that the rapper sent flowers to O’Connell to show his support. O’Connell’s attorney, Jack Webb, described the incident as “a bunch of garbage,” stating that she was unfairly blamed for something she did not do. O’Connell has expressed a desire to continue her career in education but not at Trout Creek Academy.
