Kyle Busch’s Family Discloses Cause Of Death Of NASCAR Legend

Two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Busch died on Thursday (May 21) from complications related to severe pneumonia that progressed into sepsis, as revealed by his family in a statement on Saturday (May 23). Sepsis, a life-threatening condition, occurs when the body’s response to an infection causes damage to its own tissues and organs.

Vice President of Kyle Busch Companies, Dakota Hunter, shared the family’s statement in a news release, highlighting the rapid and overwhelming complications that arose from the condition.

Busch, aged 41, was hospitalized after collapsing in a Chevrolet simulator in Concord, North Carolina, on Wednesday (May 20). According to a 911 call obtained by NBC News, Busch was experiencing shortness of breath, overheating, and coughing up blood. Despite these symptoms, he was reportedly alert when emergency responders arrived.

Busch’s passing has sent shockwaves through the racing community. Known for his fierce competitiveness and skill, Busch leaves behind a legacy as a two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion and the record-holder for the most wins across NASCAR’s top three series, with 234 victories. ESPN reports that all 39 drivers in Sunday’s race will display a black No. 8 decal on their cars in his honor.

NASCAR CEO Steve O’Donnell described Busch as an “American badass,” highlighting his impact on the sport. Tributes have poured in from fans and fellow drivers, celebrating Busch’s contributions and mourning his untimely loss.

Busch is survived by his wife, Samantha, and their children, Brexton, 11, and Lennix, 4. The family has requested privacy during this difficult time.
