The Bain Fire in Jurupa Valley, Riverside County, has burned more than 1,400 acres as of Thursday morning.

Four civilians have been injured in the Bain Fire, with three suffering from smoke inhalation and one with a traumatic injury. Firefighters are also battling the Verona Fire, which has burned 600 acres in the Homeland area and is 30% contained. Both fires are threatening nearly 2,100 structures, and evacuation orders have been issued for affected areas.
Cal Fire and Riverside County Fire Department officials reported that dry and windy weather conditions are complicating firefighting efforts. Moderate wind gusts up to 25 miles per hour are expected through Friday evening. Firefighting aircraft were temporarily grounded due to reports of drones flying near the fire zone, as noted by Captain John Clingingsmith of Cal Fire.
The South Coast Air Quality Management District has warned that smoke from the fires could affect air quality in Riverside and San Bernardino counties, advising residents to stay indoors and use air purifiers if possible. Riverside County public health officials have also issued warnings about the health risks of wildfire smoke, particularly for vulnerable groups.
Local animal shelters are preparing for displaced pets due to evacuations. The Riverside County Department of Animal Services is urging residents to foster or adopt pets to create emergency space, as their shelters are operating at 240% capacity. Adoption fees are being waived through the Memorial Day weekend.
