Trump Announces Death of ISIS Leader in Nigeria

President Donald Trump announced on Friday night (May 15) that a joint operation by U.S. and Nigerian forces has resulted in the death of Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, a senior leader of ISIS. Describing the mission as “meticulously planned and very complex,” President Trump stated that al-Minuki was “the most active terrorist in the world” and “second in command of ISIS.” He emphasized that al-Minuki’s death significantly diminishes ISIS’s global operations.

The operation took place at a compound in the Lake Chad basin, according to Nigeria’s president. The Washington Post reported that the strike was a joint effort, underscoring the cooperation between U.S. and Nigerian forces in combating terrorism in the region.

President Trump highlighted that al-Minuki believed he could hide in Africa, but the successful mission proves otherwise. Reuters confirmed that other ISIS leaders were also killed in the attack, further weakening the group’s leadership.

The operation marks a significant blow to ISIS, as the group has been attempting to expand its influence in Africa. The elimination of al-Minuki is expected to disrupt their activities and impact their operational capabilities.
