Work Vehicle Hits Stopped Train In Washington

Eleven people were injured after a work vehicle hit a stationary commuter train in downtown Washington, D.C., early Wednesday (April 22) morning, officials announced via ABC News.

The train was struck just after midnight local time at the Metro Center station, according to a post shared by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s X account.

“Just before midnight (close of service), a work vehicle on the Silver Line made contact with a stationary train at Metro Center. 11 non-life-threatening injuries were reported. We’re working with our partners to investigate. We will provide updates on any impacts to A.M. service,” the post states.

The Metro Center station is a major transfer point in the rail system and the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority confirmed that transportation plans were disrupted with delays throughout the system as some trains were using just one track in the area.

“Blue & Orange Line trains are single-tracking between McPherson & Smithsonian. Silver Line trains are only operating between Ashburn & Clarendon. Silver Line customers can transfer at Clarendon to continue their trip. Stay tuned to @Metrorailinfo for the latest service info,” a followup post on X states.

The severity or types of injuries sustained in the crash were not shared publicly as of Wednesday morning.
