Top Cleaning Brand Recalls 1.7 Million Units Over ‘Serious’ Burn Hazard

Nearly two million units of a popular home cleaning tool have been recalled due to a “serious” burn hazard, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

An estimated 1.7 million units of the BISSELL Steam Shot Omni Reach and Steam Shot Omni Steam Cleaners with attachments sold in the United States, as well as an estimated 96,000 sold in Canada, were recalled as attachments “can unexpectedly detach from the steam cleaners and expel hot water or steam onto users during use, posing a serious burn hazard.” BISSELL received a total 206 reports of hot water escaping from the streamers’ attachments which resulted in 161 cases of burn injuries, including one incident of a second-degree burn, according to the report.

The affected model numbers are 4155, 4155L, 4155W, 4155G, 4155D, 4155J, 4155Y, 4155P, 4171, 4171L, 4171W, and 4171F, which can be located on the product rating label on the botto of the unit. The recalled items were sold in green, gray, white, blue, and dark blue at Target, Walmart and other department and home good stores nationally, as well as online at BISSELL.com, Amazon.com, HSN.com and other websites for a range of $9 and $55 from October 2024 through March 2026.

Consumers are advised to visit www.steamshot2026.com to register for the recall and follow instructions on how to participate, which includes sharing a photo of the original attachment disposed in the trash.
