Star Trek Turns 60

This Labor Day weekend marks the 60th Anniversary of the beginning of production for one of the most prolific and iconic television franchises in entertainment history. Star Trek was considered a flop in the early days but later gained international fame in syndication. Now, six decades later, fans have cemented their favorite episodes, favorite films, and favorite characters. One of the most popular characters, without question, is Mr. Spock. Leonard Nimoy was an actor from Boston who had recurring roles in television westerns and other genres. But his portrayal of First Officer Spock on the Enterprise would immortalize his spot in science fiction history.

Recently, I sat down with Nimoy’s son, Adam, for a one on one about life as the son of Leonard. Adam’s book, The Most Human, chronicles Adam’s tumultuous journey growing up in the shadow of an international super star, and how he says he tried to cope, but failed, at being the perfect son.

The book reveals how the son of Spock learned to navigate this tumultuous relationship— from Shabbat dinners to basement AA meetings—and how he was finally able to reconcile with his father—and with himself.
