The Ren Faire Returns: What to Expect at Irwindale’s Medieval Playground

Step into a world of knights, pirates, and a little bit of magic because the Renaissance Pleasure Faire is back in Irwindale, and this season is leaning all the way into immersive fun.

What makes this event truly special is its legacy. Begun in 1963 in Agoura, near Malibu, the Renaissance Pleasure Faire was originally created as a “living history” experience for school children and families. More than six decades later, it has grown into a massive cultural event, welcoming more than 200,000 guests each season and inspiring Renaissance festivals across the country. Since its inception, more than 5 million people from around the world have stepped into this immersive world, with crowds averaging about 20,000 each weekend.

The Faire itself has traveled over the years—from its early days in Agoura to long runs at Glen Helen in Devore—before settling into its current home at the Santa Fe Dam Recreation Area in Irwindale. Today, visitors wander through Port Deptford, a re-created 1580s English marketplace filled with artisans, performers, and larger-than-life characters. It’s part history lesson, part theatrical experience, and part full-day escape from modern life.

And that’s really the heart of it. The Renaissance was about rebirth, new ideas, creativity, and discovery, and the Faire leans into that spirit in a way that feels both nostalgic and refreshingly current. From cutting-edge performances to handcrafted goods and indulgent food, it’s designed to be a place where you can unplug, dress up, and make memories that stick. Or as organizers put it: leave your worries at the gate—and maybe pick up a turkey leg on the way in.
