Woman Sues Tesla After Self-Driving Cybertruck Nearly Drove Off Overpass

A Houston woman, Justine Saint Amour, has filed a lawsuit against Tesla, claiming that her Cybertruck, allegedly in self-driving mode, nearly drove her and her infant off a bridge before crashing into an overpass barrier. The incident, captured on camera in August 2025, resulted in Saint Amour suing Tesla for $1 million, citing liability and negligence.

The lawsuit claims that the Cybertruck failed to navigate a curve on Houston’s 69 Eastex Freeway, instead heading straight into a concrete barrier. Saint Amour’s attorney, Bob Hilliard, stated that she disengaged the driver-assistance feature and attempted to take control, but it was too late to prevent the crash.

Saint Amour suffered serious injuries, including herniated discs in her neck and back, a sprained wrist, and nerve damage in her hand. Her one-year-old child, who was in the backseat, was unharmed.

The lawsuit accuses Tesla of misrepresenting its “Autopilot” feature’s capabilities and failing to include essential safety mechanisms like LiDAR. Hilliard criticized Tesla’s reliance on video cameras alone, arguing that the company cut corners, leading to the crash. The lawsuit follows a series of incidents questioning Tesla’s self-driving technology, including a probe by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Tesla has not responded to requests for comment. The case is filed in Harris County District Court, with no court date set yet.
