At a Medal of Honor ceremony at the White House on Monday (March 2), President Donald Trump addressed ongoing military operations in Iran. He remarked on the timeline for these operations, stating, “whatever the time is, it’s okay.” The president emphasized that the United States is already ahead of its time projections but is prepared to extend operations as necessary.
“We’re already substantially ahead of our time projections,” Trump said. “But whatever the time is, it’s okay. Whatever it takes, we will always, and we have, right from the beginning, we projected four to five weeks, but we have capability to go far longer than that. We’ll do it. “
The U.S. and Israel recently launched attacks on Tehran, sparking a complex geopolitical situation. Trump noted that the military objectives would take time to achieve, and he did not rule out deploying ground troops if needed. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth echoed this sentiment, refraining from engaging in hypotheticals about ground troop deployment.
The conflict has already resulted in casualties, with four U.S. service members killed.
The president explained that Iran ignored previous warnings not to rebuild its nuclear program, which was the target of US attacks in June 2025.
“But they ignored those warnings and refused to cease their pursuit of nuclear weapons,” Trump said at the White House. “In addition, the regime’s conventional ballistic missile program was growing rapidly and dramatically, and this posed a very clear, colossal threat to America and our forces stationed overseas. The regime already had missiles capable of hitting Europe and our bases, both local and overseas, and would soon have had missiles capable of reaching our beautiful America.”
Trump also criticized the Iran nuclear deal brokered by former President Barack Obama, calling it a “horrible, dangerous document.”
The situation in the Middle East remains tense, with Iran’s top national security official, Ali Larijani, vowing not to negotiate with the U.S. and preparing for a long conflict. As the situation develops, the U.S. continues to carry out large-scale operations aimed at eliminating perceived threats from Iran.
