C-SPAN Responds After Caller Uses Trump’s Pseudonym From The 1980s

C-SPAN has clarified that President Donald Trump did not call into the network using the alias “John Barron” to criticize the Supreme Court. On Friday (February 20), a caller identifying as John Barron, a Republican from Virginia, phoned C-SPAN’s Washington Journal to express discontent with the Supreme Court’s decision against President Trump’s tariffs. The caller mimicked Trump’s speech style, calling the ruling “the worst decision you ever have in your life, practically” and criticized Democratic leaders Hakeem Jeffries and Chuck Schumer.

Speculation arose because Trump has previously used the alias “John Barron” in the 1980s to speak with the media. However, C-SPAN confirmed in a social media post that the call originated from a central Virginia phone number while President Trump was in a meeting at the White House with governors.

“Because so many of you are talking about Friday’s C-SPAN caller who identified himself as ‘John Barron,’ we want to put this to rest: it was not the president,” the network wrote on X.

The Supreme Court’s 6-3 decision, which struck down Trump’s tariffs, was met with disappointment from the president. During a press briefing, Trump expressed similar sentiments to the caller, describing the ruling as “deeply disappointing” and criticizing the justices who ruled against him.
