LOS ANGELES (CNS) – Street closures will be in effect Saturday when tens of thousands of people gather for the 127th annual Golden Dragon Parade in Chinatown near downtown Los Angeles to mark the start of the Year of the Horse
The parade and festivities to celebrate the lunar New Year kick off at 1 p.m. and run through 4 p.m.
Street closures will begin at 10 a.m. on and around the parade route, which winds along Hill Street from Temple Street toward Bernard Street, where the route turns right, followed by another right on Broadway, then back to Temple.
The parade is put on in part by the Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs.
Attendees are advised to take mass transit or a ride-hailing service as parking in Chinatown is limited. Arrivals by 10 a.m. or 11 a.m. are recommended.
As for street closures, organizers say the Harbor (110) Freeway exit and entrance on Hill Street will be closed between 10:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.; streets around the parade assembly area on Hill Street between Ord Street and Temple will be closed from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and all streets around Hill Street and North Broadway between Bernard Street and Cesar Chavez Avenue will be closed between noon and 4 p.m.
According to the Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Los Angeles, the parade typically draws up to 110,000 people.
