Former NFL quarterback Brian Hoyer revealed that his sister-in-law, Carissa Rae Hoyer, who was married to his brother, Brett, died “suddenly and unexpectedly” last week, leaving behind four daughters in a post shared on his Instagram account Wednesday (February 18).
“It is with a heavy heart that I write this,” Hoyer wrote. “On February 13th, my little brother lost his wife Carissa suddenly and unexpectedly. She leaves behind him and their four little girls, Josie, Lainey, Ellie, and Hattie. In an instant, he became a widowed father to four daughters under 12.
“If you can find it in your heart to help us help him and his girls through this unimaginable season, we would be forever grateful.
“We can’t take away their pain, but together we can help carry the weight.
“Your support can help ease their burden during this painful time. Please consider donating or sharing to show you care. Every bit helps.”
A GoFundMe launched by Brian, Brett and Matthew Hoyer is seeking donations to “support the Hoyer family in this devastating loss” and lists Carissa as being only 36 at the time but doesn’t mention a cause of death.
“At just 37 years old, Brett is now navigating life as a widowed father to four young girls. The grief is overwhelming, and the road ahead feels daunting. As they face the painful reality of life without Cari, the added financial burden brings even more uncertainty during an already heartbreaking time,” the GoFundMe states.
Brian Hoyer appeared in 79 games for five NFL teams during his 15-year NFL career, which included eight with the New England Patriots, two with the Cleveland Browns, starting in 16 games, and one with the Las Vegas Raiders, making his final start and three appearances in 2023. The former Michigan State standout threw for 10,899 yards, 53 touchdowns and 37 interceptions, while going 16-25 in 41 career starts.
