YouTube Loses Service For Hundreds Of Thousands Of Users

YouTube announced it resolved an issue Tuesday with its recommendation system that stopped videos from appearing on its platforms for hundreds of thousands of users on Tuesday (February 17).

“The issue with our recommendations system has been resolved and all of our platforms (YouTube.com, the YouTube app, YouTube Music, Kids, and TV) are back to normal! We really appreciate you bearing with us while we sorted this out,” YouTube said in an update shared on its parent company Google’s support page.

The outage peaked at more than 329,000 users reporting issues involving YouTube services, while YouTube TV peaked at more than 9,000 users reporting outages, according to the outage-detecting website Downdetector, which shares data based on user-submitted reports and, therefore, the actual number of users may vary.

YouTube was reported to have faced outages to users in the United States, India, Britain, Australia and Mexico, according to the website.

“We’re aware some of you are having issues accessing YouTube right now. Our teams are aware, and we’ll provide updates as soon as we have them,” YouTube said in its initial announcement regarding the issues.

“We’re also seeing a small number of reports that some people are unable to login to YouTube TV. This is related to the broader issue across YouTube, and we’re also working on a fix here,” the company said in its first update.
