Trump’s Approval Rating Shifts

President Donald Trump‘s approval rating is reported to have dropped to 37% among voters, according to the latest Pew Research Center poll released on Thursday (January 29).

Trump was reported to have dropped 3% since the Pew Research Center poll released last fall. The president is reported to have a 73% approval rating among Republicans, which is down from last September.

An estimated 94% of Democrats and 25% of Republicans said they disapprove of Trump’s job performance, while only 5% of Democrats said they approved. Half of the respondents said the Trump administration’s actions have been worse than expected when he took office last January, with 21% saying they exceeded expectations and about 1 in 4 claiming the actions matched their expectations.

An estimated 27% of Americans said they support all or most of Trump’s policies, which is a drop from the 35% reported when he took office last January.

Trump was previously reported to have fallen to a new record low for his second of two non-consecutive terms in office, according to the Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Monday (January 26). The president was reported to have a 39% approval rating on immigration, which is a 2% drop from a poll conducted earlier this month, and a 53% disapproval rating.

Immigration has typically been a more favorable issue for Trump, who ran on the platform in 2024 and had previously had a 50% approval rating in the Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted in February 2025, shortly after he took office. A majority 58% of poll respondents said U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents have gone “too far” in Trump’s deportation crackdown, while 12% said they haven’t gone far enough and 26% said their actions were “about right.” The president’s overall approval rating in the Reuters/Ipsos poll was reported to be at 38%, which tied a previous low for his current term.

Trump was reported to have an average net job approval rating of -12.1% with a 42.7 approval rating and a 54.8% disapproval rating among polls conducted between January 9 and January 27, according to Real Clear Polling, which included the Reuters/Ipsos poll among various other national polls.
